North Jersey - home court advantage

As part of a gas-saving measure, I just puttered around North Jersey today. I picked a bunch of geocaches, without regard to whether they were tough in terrain or difficulty, or multistage. Got nine of them so I think it went okay. And as a bonus, I didn't have to buy any gas today as I still had 3/4 tank at the end of the day. The weather was oppressively hot and humid but got cooler towards the late afternoon.

Sugar Mountain (New Jersey)
Hilltop Reservation in Verona. This was the site of the Essex County Sanitarium so I'm wondering if this chair used to be the mental patient torture shock therapy chair. Note the brace at the top of the chair.

Franklin Lake Overlook (New Jersey)
High Mountain Wilderness Preserve in Wayne.

High Mountain Wilderness Overlook (New Jersey)
High Mountain Wilderness Preserve in Wayne. This is a longer, tougher walk but there is a view at the top. I also saw a wild turkey on my way back to parking.

Ye Old Mill - aka - Powder Horn Mill (New Jersey)
Appelt Park in Riverdale. Saw 4 ducks together in the stream. It's a fine fishing area too.

DPM: The World's Easiest Puzzle Cache (New Jersey)
Small park in Haskell. This is the cache that has supposedly stumped some area cachers repeatedly but I didn't have any problem finding all the stages. Go figure. This trail has been marked in a somewhat eccentric fashion. There are hand-painted trail signs. (Pic 1, Pic 2) and painted rocks. (Pic 1, Pic 2, Pic 3) Also of interest is the unique stone bridge crossing the Wanaque River.

Creative Cache II (New Jersey)
Jefferson Township Municipal Complex. This cache too is supposedly very difficult but I knew what it was right away when I got there.

Ski Bowl (New Jersey)
Mahlon Dickerson Reservation in Jefferson Township. The hike up to the cache was along the old ski trails so it was quite steep. There's a nice view from up there.

Edisons Alls Well That Ends Well (New Jersey)
Edison Iron Works at the Sparta Mountain WMA in Sparta. Quite a swampy area. I don't think it's a good idea to place a cache here as people will keep stepping on the broad-leafed swamp plants.

Edisons Dark Rock Cache (New Jersey)
Edison Iron Works at the Sparta Mountain WMA in Sparta. This is in a cave. An old mine tunnel, actually. Not sure if folks should be going in here at all since I did see a barbed-wire fence on my way out. The fence wasn't all the way around the area though. Anyway, the miners must have been very short because even when I was doubled-over, I kept bumping my head on the roof of the tunnel. Took a picture of the Edison monument on my way out.
