Why I'm Not a Food Critic IX

digeri was in New Jersey for company training so we met up at the Garden State Plaza and had dinner at Joe's American Bar and Grill.

The place was surprisingly busy for a weekday so there was a short wait for a table. Perhaps the crowd from the closing down sale at The Wiz (Computer networking stuff is now 50% off there. I got an 802.11b PCMCIA card for my laptop.) had to go somewhere to eat.

We ordered an appetizer, the onion strings. According to the menu, Joe bets you can't stop eating them. Well, not quite. But the fried onions do come with a nice sweetish dipping sauce. For the main course, I had the meatloaf, while Digeri had the cheeseburger. I thought it was pretty good meatloaf, baked so that it was just a little crisp. It came with a pile of squash and carrots, and mashed potatoes with gravy. For dessert, we split a bowl of baked apple pie with ice cream. Such a delight, although the ice cream tended to melt really quickly.

One thing we noticed... why is the Grey Poupon in a plastic bottle while the ketchup gets to be in a glass bottle? Looks like the classy mustard has gone way down in the condiment pecking order. :)

Friday Five (http://www.fridayfive.org/)

1. How many houses/apartments have you lived in throughout your life?
5, I think. Although, I can't recall if there were any more moves when I was little.

2. Which was your favorite and why?
Manhattan apartment in Washington Heights. The neighborhood was terrible and it was only one block away from some crime scenes. But the easy access via subway to the best of the city was great.

3. Do you find moving house more exciting or stressful? Why?
Stressful. Way too much packing and unpacking. Too many details to nail down in the moving process.

4. What's more important, location or price?
I'd say location is 70% and price is 30%. I could rent cheaper but I'd hate the longer commute.

5. What features does your dream house have (pool, spa bath, big yard, etc.)?
I used to think running network cables through the walls would be a desirable thing but there's wireless networking now. So maybe some kind of fold-up shelf in the bathroom to put a laptop. (I just know someone's going to tell me to get a magazine. :) )

The Surprise Geocaching (http://www.geocaching.com) Meet

Turtle Back Rock park in West Orange, NJ. Cold, cloudy day today. I got there and found that there was a surprise geocaching meet in the parking area! Planet, Danny, mtn-man and mopar were in attendance. Four states were represented there as attendees were from NJ, NY, CT and GA! Helmut arrived a little later. Anyway, on to the cache. Short walk to the cache area. GPS reception wasn't too great though so I had to look around a bit. Then I went back to the parking lot and the gang was still there.
