Why I'm Not a Book Reviewer #1

I just finished reading The Wrong Reflection by Gillian Bradshaw. It is a sci-fi thriller, which is not the author's usual genre as all the rest of her work is in historical fiction.

The plot is the protagonist wakes up in a hospital after a car accident with a face and body that is not his own. In addition, he has amnesia so he has no idea who he really is. So in the first half of the novel, he tries to find out, with the help of his motley crew of new-found acquaintances, as much as possible about his persona, who turns out to be a director working on a special project at a major but highly secretive R&D firm, and the intriguing conspiracies leading up to the accident.

Then there is a surprising plot twist (which I won't spoil here) that reveals his true identity and turns the story around completely. Unfortunately, the plot itself turns into a bit of a cliche following the good folks vs. evil corporation formula, so that's a bit of a letdown.

Anyway, I don't read a whole lot of novels but there was a pile of discounted books at the supermarket so I figured I'd pick up a few and hope that by reading them, I can improve my own writing by osmosis. (Who am I kidding? I'll most likely just string together another bunch of quirky stuff in the next NaNoWriMo. :) ) If nothing else, once I'm done I can slap a label on the book and track it with Bookcrossing. Anything that advances a hobby of mine is not a waste of time. :)
