Long Island

Rained all day long, which made for a soggy outing. Remarkably, there were still some people at cache sites except that, because of the rain, they were just sitting in their cars and staring out at the water. So in order to search for the caches discreetly, I tried a new technique. I slipped my digital camera into the suspected hiding spots and took some photos. Once the cache showed up on the LCD preview, I knew where it was and could grab it quickly.

Came home at night and wondered why there were flashing lights all over the place. It turns out that there was a horrible accident at the main intersection about half a mile from home. Boy, this town is going to get a reputation for traffic disasters.

Socrates (New York)
Socrates Sculpture Park in Astoria, Queens. Nice cityscape view across the East River. As the name implies, there are a number of sculptures in the park, such as this oil well, the jolly green giant, and whatever this is.

PORT JEFF HARBOR MICRO (New York)
Port Jefferson Harbor. Had to use the photocaching technique because there were people parked nearby staring at water.

JMB-2 Hoop the "D", version 3.1 (New York)
Bellport Dock. Again used the photocaching technique as there were people parked nearby.

JMB-50 Post Morrow South Loop (New York)
Post Morrow Foundation in Brookhaven.

Eons-7 Claude (New York)
Claude Neville Park in Center Moriches.

Mac-22 Paumanok Hike 3 (New York)
Peconic Hills County Park in Riverhead.

M&M-15 Brother, Can You Spare a Dime?? (New York)
Calverton. This is a cache full of pre-stamped donation envelopes that cachers can optionally take and use to make a donation. I picked the Guide Dog Foundation.

Mac-23 Paumanok Hike 4 (New York)
Birch Creek Pond County Park in Flanders. This one and the next one were apparently placed independently by two different cachers in the same park and on the same trail within a 24-hour period. Quite a coincidence! There's a nice view of Owl Pond along the way.

M&M-14 Flanders Fun (New York)
Birch Creek Pond County Park in Flanders.
