A few weeks ago, there was a camera crew at the Long Island Summer Cache Event. Well, I got word that the segment on the picnic and geocaching will be aired on the WB-11 (New York City area) 10pm news this Sunday. (August 8) I probably won't be home in time to watch it so if anyone happens to catch that, let me know how it went.
Also, this LJ has been linked from the current issue of Today's Cacher so... oh what the hey, be as wacky as you like. :)
Spam or not spam? I got the following email today:
Date: Fri, 6 Aug 2004 12:33:02 -0700 (PDT) From: [deleted] <[deleted]@yahoo.com> Subject: Web Design To: email@example.com Hi, We were wondering how much you might charge for creating a website header made in flash like the one we saw at: http://www.leisuremax.us We are also looking for a web designer or a company that can create a shopping cart with 200 products in it. We also are interested in having a forum and a links pages added to. Can you give us a price on what you would charge. Thanks, Respectfully, [deleted] [deleted]@yahoo.com
It could be one of several things:
- A traffic generator for leisuremax.us, which appears to be a business website.
- A way to confirm email addresses for further spam, i.e. anyone who replies to this email to ask what it is about will be confirmed as a valid recipient.
- An honest, albeit somewhat misdirected, inquiry.
The problem with email these days is there are so many scams and so much spam out there that an email from someone you don't know is automatically suspect. So in all likelihood, an inquiry email like that, even if it isn't spam, will be ignored when what he really could have benefitted from was a referral to a web design firm.
