Sussex County

Headed out towards Sussex County today. I probably should go that way more often. It's actually so near that I didn't use much gas at all. The downside is the terrain at some locations is quite rough so it's a workout. Well, maybe that's an upside too. :)

The weather was cool and cloudy most of the day as the hurricane fizzled out. I only got rained on for a short time while I was in Sparta, and most of the rain fell while I was driving anyway so it didn't matter.

Rotten Pond (New Jersey)
Ramapo Mountain State Forest in Oakland.

Oakland Overlook II: Higher Ground (New Jersey)
Ramapo Mountain State Forest in Oakland.

TRL Kids Cache (New Jersey)
Station Road Park in Sparta. An easy kids cache.

One More For The Kids (New Jersey)
Station Road Park in Sparta. A kids cache for kids who like to bushwhack, apparently.

Morris Etamin Low Water? (New Jersey)
Flanders. Behind a shopping center. I don't like it when the cache hider says that the name will make sense when I get there and it doesn't. Low Water? Well, there's a water tower nearby and it is just behind Wal-Mart. Hmm.

XX Fun DayXX (New Jersey)
Stanhope. Funny thing about this place is my map shows a lot more roads than there actually are. No info on where to park but I came across a paved path and followed that in, and then switched over to some dirt paths. That worked pretty well. Also met Straatmaker 5 near the cache site.

XX The ITC XX (New Jersey)
Stanhope. This appears to be a local fishing hole by the Musconetcong River.

Fishing Saxton Falls (New Jersey)
Hackettstown. Scenic area between a river and a canal/ditch. Lots of abandoned houses along the road. Maybe the state bought the land but didn't tear down the houses yet.

Sussex Castor Chase (New Jersey)
Allamuchy Mountain State Park in Stanhope. First of two caches near the Sussex Branch Trail, a flat, graveled rail trail.

Sussex Deneb Rock Fall (New Jersey)
Allamuchy Mountain State Park in Stanhope. Second of two caches near the Sussex Branch Trail, a flat, graveled rail trail.
