North Jersey

There was a geocaching event picnic in Allentown, PA but I wasn't sufficiently motivated to head out there today so I just went around Northern NJ to finish up some geocaches up on mountains.

Tripped over a branch and fell on a rock at one of the locations. Bruised my knee so from then on, I just hit a few more easy geocaches and called it a day.

When I got home, I got a phone call from the NJ State Police. Apparently, that last cache was not in a public area. (The woods around the "scenic view" rest area are off-limits although the signage seems to be missing on that side of the woods.) I posted an archive note to that cache page so it should be dealt with shortly.

Mind Your Steep! (New Jersey)
Ramapo Reservation in Mahwah. Just a walk up to Hawk Rock, a viewpoint on top of the Monroe Ridge. First to find on this one and on my way out, I ran into Walkin' Ed, whom I've wanted to meet for a long time. Funny how that happened by chance.

Pot Of Gold (New Jersey)
High Mountain Wilderness Preserve in Franklin Lakes / Wayne. Information was provided on the shortcut access trail, which is really a woods road, so I used that to go up the mountain. Funny thing is on my way up, I saw some people trying to drive up the mountain in an SUV! Bizarre. They had to turn around and come back down anyway because the woods road got too narrow further up.

High Mountain (New Jersey)
High Mountain Wilderness Preserve in Franklin Lakes / Wayne. Not very far from the Pot of Gold geocache.

"Superstitions, Myths & Legends" (New Jersey)
Hilltop Reservation in Caldwell. An easy two-stage cache at the former site of a mental institution.

Morris Fomalhaut Farewell (New Jersey)
Wooded area at a corporate center in Parsippany.

XxBreak AwayXx (New Jersey)
Cranberry Lake area in Andover.

Mayflies & Stoneflies (New Jersey)
Stephens State Park in Budd Lake. A scenic area by the Musconetcong River.

Here We Go Again (New Jersey)
I-80 Eastbound Scenic Area in Hackettstown.

Route 80 View of the Gap (New Jersey)
I-80 Eastbound Scenic Area in Hackettstown. This is the one where the NJ State Police got called. Apparently, the wooded area is off-limits but the parking lot, where the other cache is located, is fine. Also first to find on this cache, although that hardly seems worth mentioning as it's going to get archived anyway.
