Sent in my submission to JPG Magazine this evening. (Thanks to gayburblife for the info.) Supposedly, it's a new magazine that will feature photos from amateur/hobbyist photographers who like taking pictures of everything. :) Anyway, since the theme is "ORIGIN", I picked a not-too-bad sunset-lit picture of one of New Jersey's primordial-soup swamps. It's interesting that their submission email address is on Gmail but I guess they need that large chunk of space because of all the 1MB+ JPEGs that will be flooding in.

While on the topic of amateur photography, Fotolog is in serious trouble. I don't think they're going to be able to raise $70,000 in a few days, which is when the bills are due. The problem is whether the business model can be profitable. Serving up photos takes a lot of server power and bandwidth. More bandwidth per pageview than Livejournal, for instance, which deals mainly in text. What do they sell to offset the costs? They have Gold Camera memberships, which are optional and don't add much by way of features. They also have a Cafepress store. No banner ads or anything else. I heard they're lining up some investors, although I'm not sure how considering that any potential investor would have to take a serious look at Fotolog's profitability before entering the deal. Gloom and doom aside, I hope Fotolog survives. It's a great community.
