Long Island

There was about 1/4 of an inch of snow on my car this morning. There was a bit of snow on the ground too but that didn't last very long. The traffic report on the radio was very long this morning because of all the accidents around the NYC area. Fortunately, the disabled vehicles had been removed from the Southern State Parkway ramp before I got there.

I think I'm going to have to be a bit more picky about the geocaches I go for. What exactly is the justification for hiding a cache in the maintenance yard of the sanitation department, 15 feet from an active railroad track? I don't even know how something like that can get approved (more because of the proximity to the railway than the general wrongness of being in that location), and yet that was one of the caches today.

There was another cache that was a film canister hidden in a wooded area where one could easily hide something 50 times bigger. I looked for a few minutes and then decided to just drive on because there was a better one down the road. Heck with that.

Complaints aside, everything else was great. Otsego Park was nice. Argyle Lake was scenic. And Long John Silver's was scrumptious as usual.

A Lump on a Log (New York)
Massapequa Preserve in Massapequa.

Mac-38 Otsego Park (New York)
Otsego Park in Huntington. A lot closer to the parking area than I thought, mostly because the parking area went a lot further in than I thought. There were a bunch of strange people just driving round and round the parking area.

Argyle lake:S12&M.H. (New York)
Argyle Lake in Babylon. Quite a scenic lake. The wind was very strong though and blew away the cache's plastic wrapper.

BCF-2 Swag City (New York)
Sanitation maintenance yard in Babylon.

Hop, Skip and a Jump (New York)
Major Hopkins Memorial Park in Shoreham. Quick and easy one to do in the setting sun.
