It was only much later in the evening when I saw what had happened. By that time, the police had reopened half of Chestnut Ridge Road. As I passed the site of the incident, I saw what appeared to be half a car. Actually, it was still the whole car, except that it had been crushed and crumpled up all the way to the middle. Basically, the entire passenger side of the car had caved in.
Even though it was the passenger side that took most of the impact, I doubt anyone could've walked away from that one. If the driver escaped without serious or even fatal injury, then he or she was very lucky. The other vehicle involved in the accident was an SUV, which ended up on the divider after impact.
Count your blessings every day. You never know when you might be in an accident like that.
