Thanksgiving Day

Got up early to prepare the turkey, except that early somehow became 7am, which is still pretty early. The intent was to have the turkey ready before lunch so that it takes care of both meals today. It didn't take very long though. The rule of thumb I used is 12 minutes (at 325°F) per pound and this wasn't a big turkey.

It turned out not too bad. About as good as turkeys I've roasted in past years. I also made the stuffing from off-the-shelf boxed stuffing and gravy from canned gravy. Didn't use the cranberry sauce yet. Maybe I'll have that with the leftovers tomorrow.

After lunch, hey... let's go geocaching. There were two in Essex County that weren't too far away. This one was a visit to two monuments in the Arts District of Newark. It was a good day to do that because traffic in Newark was minimal and parking was abundant. I think I could have parked practically at one of the monuments but I didn't realize that the parking lot would be unattended and open.

This cache was pretty interesting too. If you decode the clues on the page, you can pretty much guess where it is but there's a twist that I won't spoil, in case any other North Jersey cachers are reading and want to try it.

Came home and finished another part of the turkey for dinner. Still about half left so I carved the rest of it and placed the meat into plastic containers. I think there'll be turkey sandwiches for the next few days.
