Christmas Eve

It appears that some new geocaches popped up in Westchester during my absence, so I went to find Out of the woods #3 and Hudson's Hide. Both of them were in Saxon Woods Park, although the first was South of the Hutchinson Parkway in Mamaroneck, while the second was North of the Hutchinson in White Plains. One thing I hadn't noticed before is there's a sign at the entrance to Saxon Woods saying that everyone entering the park is required to show proof of Westchester residency. I wasn't aware that Saxon Woods was restricted to county residents, but no one said anything so I just went in.

After that, I went to Parkers Perch at the Palmer H. Lewis Sanctuary in Pound Ridge. It's on top of the hill in the background of this picture, so that was a bit of a climb, but not too difficult.

Skipped the mall because I knew it would be packed. However, I did go to the local Staples store. One realization from the most recent trip is every time I packed the laptop, I had to yank the CompactFlash card reader from the desktop computer to take along on the trip. So I was wondering if I could get a smaller card reader just for traveling. But I found something better: a CompactFlash PC Card adapter. Why didn't I think of that before? The laptop has a PCMCIA slot, which until now has gone unused. The adapter is the size of a PCMCIA card and thus much easier to stow in one of the many pockets of the laptop bag. And the adapter is relatively inexpensive. So in all respects, it's a win.
