Indian Island

Since it's the day after Christmas and some people have the day off, I figured traffic would be light. So why not go to Long Island? That worked well, until I was heading home and encountered an accident (according to the traffic report) on the George Washington Bridge. That caused traffic to back up all the way back to the ramp from the Major Deegan Expressway. So I ended up having to go North through Westchester to the Tappan Zee Bridge to get home.

In the morning, there was also a 4-car pileup on the Throgs Neck Bridge, but the amazing thing is there wasn't any traffic delay at all. People were doing the right thing and not slowing down to gawk at the accident. Incredible!

Anyway, my main goal was to visit Indian Island and find the quartet of caches there. However, I couldn't resist getting a bunch more on the way there and afterwards. The last two were very difficult because I did those the wrong way. If I'd gone in the suggested order, there's a trail going way around the other side. Instead, I went through the thickest part of the thicket. Twice. Even so, with a bit of patience and a pair of clippers, I got through okay.

Dinner: LJS/KFC co-branded restaurant in Baldwin. (Southern Parkway, exit 20S.) (Ha! I don't need to go to Patchogue any more.) Had my usual stack of fried fish.
