Long Island

With some measure of dread, I went to Long Island today. Well, surprise, surprise! There was no screaming, cussing, rude gesturing, glaring, or honking the whole day long. Someone in Lindenhurst was even nice enough to stop to let me into traffic. That's unheard of! And it's a complete turnaround from the few trips before this when I experienced nastiness from the locals. So maybe it's not all that bad after all.

It was another cold day, made worse by the wind on the beach areas. The biggest snags were:
1. It took me longer than it should have to find the entrance to Wantagh Park. This park has a very long driveway from all the way out on Merrick Road, with no access from any of the side streets. Not even from side streets that abut the park.
2. The Cedar Beach Marina parking area was closed. (I think this parking area is open less than half the year!) So was the Cedar Beach parking area. So it was a round trip of a bit more than a mile walk from the Overlook Beach parking area. Which wouldn't be so bad, except for it being both cold and windy.

Logged a DNF on Reach Out and Touch Someone because it has an extra "code phrase" requirement that I didn't know about at the time because I was using only the coordinates. Technically, I already "found" it because I signed the physical log, but the cache owner wants to be emailed the code to log it online, so eh... I'll finish it on my next trip, whenever that is. What I'm annoyed about here is why introduce unnecessary complications into something that's supposed to be fun? We already suffer enough unnecessary complications in our day-to-day lives.

Dinner was at the KFC/LJS in Baldwin. It's a quiet restaurant because I was the only customer tonight! (Well okay, a few more went through the drive-thru, but considering that they have five people running the restaurant, it can't be a very profitable Sunday night.)
