I was in the mood to go north into NY State today, so I headed up the NY Thruway. For some reason, New Paltz was congested with traffic from end to end. Either there's an event going on somewhere around or there are a lot of leaf peepers.
After New Paltz, I went to Port Ewen and Kingston for a bunch more geocaches. Then I crossed the bridge over to Dutchess County. Did one cache at dusk in Hyde Park. Then darkness fell. I still had 4 caches on the list, so I went to each area and decided on a case-by-case basis whether to go for it in the dark. Two of the areas made me nervous, one because of terrain and the other because it was in a seedy part of town. However, the other two locations were perfect for nightcaching. So I did those two and went to Arby's in Wappingers Falls for dinner.
I wanted to take the Mid-Hudson Bridge so that I could hand a Where's George bill directly to the toll clerk who's been finding so many of my WG bills, but my route never went that way, although interestingly enough, one of the caches I did at night (at Waryas Park) had a great view of that bridge. Maybe next time.
