Most of the caches were not too difficult to find, but a funny thing happened at "Elements Four". It's at the back of the parking lot of Island 16 and Chili's in Holtsville. (gushi would know this place. We had takeout from that Chili's once.) Anyway, I'd only just started looking for the cache when the security guard came over in his car to ask what I was doing. Uh oh, I thought, I was going to get the third degree. But that's not what happened. I told him what I was doing and he joined in the search! I think he has the right instincts to be a good geocacher; he checked all the hiding spots I'd have checked. This turned out to be a tricky cache, but I found it after some time and showed it to him. My guess is he had seen some people looking around that spot before and was curious as to what they were looking for. So now he knows.
When dusk fell at the end of the day, I visited a few more cache spots as drive-bys to see if any of those could be done in the dark. I erred on the side of caution and left those for another day. (One of those was near a fire station and there was actually a fire alarm at that time.) Besides, it was time for an early dinner at the fictional pirate character seafood restaurant in Melville. I used a coupon to get the fish combo basket at a $1.30 discount.
