I finally got around to some Lake Ronkonkoma caches that have been sitting out there for months while I was geocaching on the South Shore. Those were all very entertaining, even if I parked in the wrong place for one of them and had to go around.
Dinner... well, since I had the coordinates for Main St. in Flushing, I went there. Tried a new route this time, accessing that area from Northern Blvd. Not my first choice, but I saw that the LIE had traffic delays and I was a bit familiar with Northern Blvd from having gone that way while geocaching in Queens, so it was an easy decision to switch over to that road. I feared the worst because I was arriving right around dinnertime, but to my surprise, Flushing wasn't very busy. My guess is half the crowd disappears when some of the stores close in the evening. I had dozens of parking spaces to choose from at the municipal parking lot.
I had shabu-shabu at Minni's, just like last time. It's funny how cooking the food myself amuses me, but I think I'm beginning to understand why. I like to cook. I just don't like to wash the dishes and pots afterwards, which is why I don't cook much at home. Also, as I mentioned before, this hotpot thing is what we did back in the old country every time there was a big family gathering, so there's a nostalgia aspect to it.
After dinner, I still had lots of paid parking time left, so I took a walk around the block. I saw a bunch of interesting restaurants, some of which are open 24 hours a day. In particular, I saw another shabu-shabu place that also has pho. Intriguing. Perhaps I'll try that next time.
