A few reminders so I won't forget:

The mysterious item

Okay, so maybe it's not the Doomsday device but the three of us got a bit carried away trying to figure out what this mysterious item, which we found in For the birds, is for.

The cache owner informed me today that it is an ionic air freshener that you plug into the cigarette lighter socket in the car. Mystery solved! I knew of similar gadgets at the Sharper Image but none that look quite like this.

Went to the Sprint Store in Paramus to purchase a PCS Vision enabled phone. That took the better part of an hour. Slow! But I guess customer service at a wireless store needs to do a lot more for each customer than your average store. Why, the guy even unpacked my purchase and put everything together. Now that's service! The phone was only $49 with the current $100-off promo.

Of course I wasn't done. Later, I called Sprint from home to change my service plan to one of the new and cheaper Free And Clear With Vision plans. That will take effect starting with the next billing cycle in 3 days. This plan has unlimited nights and weekends, not that it matters given my current usage patterns. Also, they seem to have redefined "night" to begin at 9pm instead of 8pm, as it was with the old plans.
