There goes the Rainforest

Went to the Palisades Center Mall this evening. The mission was to get a Wireless Web Connection Kit, basically the cable I need to connect the cell phone to the serial port of my laptop, from the Sprint PCS Store. They didn't have any. Darn. I'll have to order that online then.

Anyway, since I was there, I decided to take a look at the rest of the mall, something I hadn't done in quite a while.

Surprisingly, the CompUSA store still had the free after rebate item of the week. Very strange because they usually run out on the very first day. This time it was the Franklin Covey binder and PDA case, and so I got one of those.

The Rainforest Cafe is gone! I guess I should have seen that coming as business was getting a little thin, what with the economy, the stock market and all. When you drop from a ten millionaire to a mere millionaire, you don't go to a theme restaurant. :) Still, this comes as quite a surprise as I remember a time when the Rainforest Cafe was the reason to go to the Palisades Center. Okay, so I exaggerate! Looks like I'll never see that animatronic leopard again. According to the Rainforest Cafe website, the Jersey Gardens location is also no more. The closest one now would be in the Menlo Park Mall in Edison.

Waldenbooks is also gone... okay, so that wasn't noteworthy.

At least the mall itself appears to have stopped sinking. The underground parking area doesn't look any deeper now than what I remember before.
