On the plus side, I just got a bunch of unsubscribe notices from ConsumerValueDirect. And I only had to report them about a dozen times. :/ This is probably one of those opt-out mailing lists where they start by subscribing 200 million e-mail addresses or however many that All-The-Email-Addresses-In-The-World CD contains and then wait for unsubscribe requests to come in.
The trouble with opt-out is firstly, it is spam. How do you know you have to unsubscribe from a mailing list you didn't join? They'll have to spam you at least once and more likely half a dozen times by the time you check your e-mail. Secondly, how do you know the opt-out mechanism is legitimate? It could also be a means of collecting verified e-mail addresses, which they will then sell to other spammers.
So excuse me if I report all opt-out spammers, legit or not, to their ISPs.
Does Strong Bad get any spam? :)
