Rainy Mountain View

This afternoon, I received the first Postcrossing card originating from Tuvalu. Really. The Postcrossing ID is TV-1. However, I noticed that the postcrosser who sent it to me is not actually a Tuvalu resident. She's there for one year as a Taiwan ICDF volunteer. In any case, it's neat to get such a low Postcrossing ID number. Maybe some of the Tuvalu locals will start sending out postcards too.

It was a rainy day so I picked one geocache that wasn't too far away and went for it. That cache was Bear Swamp at Mountainview Nature Park in West Nyack. It is located near an upload swamp but the hike wasn't too bad, even in rain, because the trail didn't go near the swamp. It was just an uphill trek with a few rocky stretches, typical for this region.

After that, I went to Palisades Center Mall to pay the phone bill. For lunch, I had a philly cheesesteak from Nathan's at the food court to use up another soon-to-expire coupon. This Nathan's has a mural showing their original Coney Island location back in 1916 when hot dogs were 5 cents each. Given that Nathan's hot dogs are now around $2, the long-run rate of inflation is: (2 / 0.05) ^ (1 / (2009 - 1916)) = 1.0405, or a bit over 4% per year.
