SUBWAY HIKE UN-FARE

The MTA has enough money to avoid next month's fare hike - but has hidden its surplus by keeping two sets of books, one for internal use and one for the public, sources said yesterday.

State Comptroller Alan Hevesi and City Comptroller Bill Thompson found "significant irregularities" when going over the Metropolitan Transportation Authority's finances, the sources said.

Oh geez. So the MTA is pulling an Enron on everyone now? Traveling in New York City is expensive and annoying enough without paying unnecessary fare hikes.
